SLPA Services

When I began my position at CHIME over 14 years ago, I vividly remember walking into a classroom and watching a particular paraprofessional named Chelsea interact with a student. In so many ways, she just "had it"- those natural interactional skills with a child that are so hard to teach. She understood how to support language, autonomy, behavior; she followed through with what was asked of her, asked good questions, and craved more learning. On that very day, I remember telling her "have you ever considered becoming an SLP?" For the next six years, I had the pleasure of continuing to work with Chelsea in her role as a paraprofessional supporting children with complex communication needs at CHIME. She attended weekly training sessions I conducted on topics related to language, AAC and communication. When I left CHIME to open my practice, I assured her that there would always be a place for her if/when she was ready.  In the years since, she continued to work for me in the capacity of a "communication partner" supporting the communication needs of children at home and in the community. And now, I couldn't be more excited to have Chelsea assist me with the provision of the highest quality AAC services to the families with whom we are privileged to work.
